Music Therapist, Director of IU Music Therapy
Nam Kim, MTA, MT-BC
Nam is a music therapist over 16 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with autism and developmental disabilities. Nam studied music composition and music education in South Korea and music therapy master’s program in Kansas, U.S.
Nam is a board-certified music therapist by the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) and by the Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT) in U.S.
With respect, empathy, and faith, Nam has tried to motivate clients to unlock the potential growth of each students. She uses clinical skills to adapt or extend both to provide strong motivation for clients to participate in the music therapy session and to make therapy sessions more dynamic.
Everyday, she is learning an important lesson about how music influences people in a good way. As a music therapist, she believes not only the power of music and its facilitation nut also particularly value the people’s growth throughout the lifespan.
Music Therapist
Micaela Pirritano, BMT, MTA
Micaela is a certified music therapist (MTA) and professional vocalist who believes that every individual should have the opportunity to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. Music can be a powerful and accessible medium to work on various developmental goals while also building trust, confidence, and independence. Realizing the therapeutic value of music in her own life is what led her to pursue and complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy at Capilano University, which included a 1000-hour practicum at BC Children’s Hospital. She also has a diploma in Classical Music and is trained in Music Together®, which informs her foundation for music education and performance. She is an active member of the Music Therapy Association of BC (MTABC) and is currently pursuing her Master’s of Educational Psychology on a part-time basis. Prior to completing her schooling, Micaela had worked for 10 years with children and youth in a variety of roles. Some of these roles included private music instruction, accessibility support work, group music exploration, private tutoring, and childcare. In these diverse positions, her style of working with children has continually emphasized creativity. Micaela believes that play is a foundational part of one’s health and incorporates this philosophy into the work she does. She has extensive experience working alongside children with complex support needs and is passionate about supporting and empowering neurodivergent children, youth, and adults through a non-pathological, strengths-based approach.
Art Therapist
Hae Soo Jo
Art therapy sessions will be conducted during the summer.
Hae Soo Jo is a professional Art Therapist operating a private practice in the Greater Vancouver and Lower Mainland areas of Canada, as well as a BC certified elementary school teacher in Langley. She obtained a BA in Psychology and Counselling and a BEd in Education and Early Learning from Simon Fraser University, and a Master's level Diploma in Art Therapy from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. With 10 years of experience, Hae Soo has been extensively involved in planning and facilitating individual and group art therapy programs and workshops. Having served as a Behavioral Interventionist and Education Assistant for children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities for 9 years, she also knows how to effectively work with children and youth with special needs in therapeutic settings. By using creativity as a healing tool, she provides learning opportunities to help them gain various important skills. Hae Soo’s approach to art therapy is both art- and client-centered, based on genuine support and acceptance, openness, empathetic listening, and opportunities for exploration and healing through creative expression. She believes every client has the creativity, the need for creation, and the ability to heal themselves through creative expression.
